Coach's Spotlight: Jennifer Flaxington of Prestige Fitness & Gymnastics

Jennifer Flaxington, Owner of Prestige Fitness & Gymnastics

Tell us a little bit about yourself…. My name is Jennifer Flaxington. I am 32 years old & have lived in Lincoln, RI my whole life! I was a competitive gymnast throughout most of my childhood/adolescence and always dreamed of owning my own gymnastics school.

I attended Rhode Island College and have a degree in Business Management. In 2012, I was fortunate enough to open my own gymnastics school, Prestige Fitness & Gymnastics located in Swansea, MA.

Awesome! Please tell us more about Prestige... Prestige offers both recreational and competitive gymnastics programs. We have classes for both boys and girls as young as 18 months old. Besides gymnastics, we also offer birthday parties, adult fitness, open gyms, summer “camps,” and a number of other special events.

Prestige Fitness and Gymnastics in Swansea, MA

When did you get into gymnastics? I idolized a girl at school when I was younger because she knew how to “flip.” I begged my mom to sign me up for classes when I was 8 years old.

Favorite hairstyle? The kids at my gym joke about “the Jen bun.” Most days I wear my hair in a messy bun high on top of my head. It has started a trend in our gym. Haha! They have even convinced me to let them wear their hair like that to some of our competitions. My personal favorite look at competitions is when our girls curl their hair in a tight pony tail.

Lots of hair elastics and lots of spray!

Jen's Platinum Blonde Moment

Any hair disasters in your life? As someone with naturally blonde hair, I once decided (not sure why!) that I wanted to give platinum blonde a try. Needless to say, not one of my finer moments! After leaving the salon on the verge of tears, I quickly made an appointment the next day at a different salon in hopes of somehow getting my natural hair color back.

The amount of bleach/dye in my hair over such a short period of time eventually made my hair brittle. I remember not being able to brush my hair for the longest time because the hair would just snap/break right off. Bad choice! ;)

Share your perspective on the saying, "hair up, game on." Reminds me of the quote a lot of our girls have hanging in the lockers!

LOVE this saying! ...readjust and keep it moving.

How often do you wash your hair? Every other day!

To poo or not to poo... that is the question: Shampoo - yes or no? Shampoo and conditioner

We're huge fans of the 'Jen Bun' too!

Want to meet Jen and check out Prestige Fitness & Gymnastics? They're having an open house this Saturday, October 7th from 1-4pm. Learn more and RSVP here.
